Discovery Ridge Fall Fair and Pumpkin Hunt ::

Please join the DRCA on Saturday October 16th from 10am to 12pm in the soccer field for our 2nd Annual Pumpkin Hunt followed by pumpkin decorating and games. Children will receive a cookie and chocolate milk. This event is free for DRCA members. 2010/2011 memberships are $25/year, and can now be purchased on-line at  www.discoveryridge.com.  A $5/child fee will be charged for families without DRCA memberships.  Dress appropriately and ensure all children are accompanied by an adult. This year we are collecting donations of slightly used winter clothing (jackets, snow pants, boots) for the Children’s Cottage Society and non-perishable food items for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. Register now at familyevents@discoveryridge.com with your child’s name and age, membership # (phone number) if applicable, and if not, simply bring your $5 to the registration table on the day of the event (cash only please). Registration will close on October 8th. Space for the pumpkin hunt is limited to 150 children.

DRCA Parks Update June 2010 ::

The DRCA Parks Committee is moving forward with a plan to build amenities on the parcel of land beside the soccer fields across from the Cornerstone Market on Discovery Ridge Blvd. We have received verbal approval from the Calgary Board of Education to use this parcel of land and we are working with the City of Calgary on the Licence of Occupation (LOC) for this land.

We completed a telephone survey of 151 households in Discovery Ridge in March and we will be working with a design firm to develop a conceptual drawing based on the survey findings. The survey results clearly told us that your top priorities are Leisure ice, Soccer field improvements, a Tennis court and a Hockey rink. You can see the summary of the responses below.

We are actively pursuing grants to supplement our funds and we hope to break ground this fall to provide at least a leisure ice rink for this winter. We plan to show a first draft of a potential layout at the June 13th Stampede Breakfast and will also update the newsletter and website when we have more information to share.   We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced contractor or supplier of any of the services we will be requiring for this project. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to help in any way.

Thanks for helping to make Discovery Ridge an even better place to live.

Chair, DRCA Parks Committee
